The Unburdened Heart by Suzanne Eller
If you, like me, wrestle with forgiveness for things in your past, either done by you or to you, then this book is what you have been searching for. Suzie takes you on a journey through the definition of forgiveness. The depth of her writing will have you in tears and yet finding that place of peace you have been seeking. It all begins to make sense and I found myself finally letting go of so much bitterness and anger that I had been trudging around with year after year after year. I have read the book twice and we are getting ready to use it for a women's Bible study group again. I would buy a copy for every woman I know if I could.

Joshua by Joseph F. Girzone
A fictional tale of a man named Joshua who comes to a small town to live. It is written by a retired priest. I eagerly devoured each page, filling my mind with the same old questions. Aren't we all supposed to be a Joshua? Isn't community where we should seek to do His work? Haven't we all been suspicious of someone who seemed just a little too "churchy"? I too have found myself wondering at someone's motives when truly all they wanted to do was serve. After reading this book I had to run out and buy the movie as well. A deeply spiritual, life changing book, Joshua is a great way to remind yourself just how God has called us to be in our walk with Him.
Choose Joy by Kay Warren
I read this book recently as part of a weekly women's bible study. It was difficult for me to wrap my head around Kay's words because while I was reading it her son committed suicide. Thus I kept thinking about how much God had been preparing her for that as she sat writing the book. All in all the book was easy to read with very helpful tips on how to move to a place of gratitude in your life thus bringing forth more joy in your circumstance. Kay is very honest and real about her struggles in everything from her marriage to her cancer to her children. It made me feel like she had great empathy for the battles I face in my everyday life. I especially loved that she pointed out that Jesus was a man of joy. We often think of Him as a stern taskmaster but He laughed and loved just like all of us do. Her words gave me pause to think about the fact that God wants us to succeed. He wants us to have joy. He doesn't want us to be unhappy. I pray that God kept her close and surrounded her with joyful angels during this horrible time in her life. I pray that she was able to keep seeing joy in the darkness.
The Shack by Wm. Paul Young
I can honestly say that no book has touched me this much since I read Joshua a few years ago. I finally was able to clearly see how the Trinity works. It made sense to me after reading through the story. While the book is incredibly painful in the beginning, the walk you take alongside Mack and his family is deep and poignant. You come to a place of understanding about halfway through the book and you find yourself devouring every page after that. I read the book in two nights. It was that good. So often we wrestle with the question of "why" in the great scheme of things. When it seems that God is distant and our prayers are bouncing off of Heaven it can be easy to turn our back and walk away. But God will show up when we least expect Him and give us the understanding that we seek. This book is a must read for anyone who struggles with understanding how The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit all work in conjunction with each other as one.
