The Wedding

John 2:1-2 "The next day there was a wedding celebration in the village of Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the celebration. " NLT

The wedding of our youngest daughter was last weekend.  In spite of the fact that sweetheart and I nearly lost our minds, it was a beautiful and sacred event.  Friends and family came together to watch two people place their lives in God's hands with the promise to love each other forever as husband and wife. Their union was blessed by Pastor Ky(a very good dancer by the way!) from Fellowship of the Woodlands www.woodlandschurch.tv who had a message for them that brought tears to many eyes.  He pointed out that although their start had been a little unconventional, they had kept their eyes on God.  He included sweet baby Lyric in his remarks, blending together their little family as they said their vows.
A little over a year ago, these two young people made a choice to go against the council of their parents and their God. The choice resulted in sweet baby Lyric.  In that year, there were many tears shed, many decisions made and unmade, and many moments of anger and joy.   It was certainly not their intent to travel down this path so soon.  They wisely chose to wait until youngest daughter graduated.  They attended classes on marriage, finance, parenting.  They began paying their tithing and attending church regularly. They were blessed by many angels who guided them along this path, both as a family and as individuals.  There are too many people to name on these pages but they all will never know just how much their acceptance, love, and guidance meant to youngest daughter and her new husband.

As Pastor Ky spoke the words that bound them together now and forever, I knew without a doubt that the miracle of God's forgiveness had once again changed lives.  To see the joy on their faces as they walked down the aisle was a blessing that my Abba knew I needed. Their love for each other and for sweet baby Lyric is
etched across their faces.  Pastor Ky was able to double dip into God's blessings when he baptized them both the next day after Sunday services.  Together, as husband and wife, they gave their lives to the Lord.  What better way to end an amazing weekend.  (and yes, she wore her really expensive wedding dress into the baptismal font.....sigh)

I was reminded this morning while reading  from "The One Year Yellow Ribbon Devotional" by Brenda Pace and Carol McGlothlin, that Christ performed His first miracle at a wedding.  He, His mother, and His disciples  were invited to the wedding.  History tells us nothing about who was getting married.  But you don't invite strangers to your wedding as a general rule.  With the wording of the scripture, it sounds like Mary was involved in the wedding itself.  I would imagine that Christ was friends with the bridal party, perhaps even the same age.  How astounded they must have been to find out that their friend was the Son of God.  Can you imagine their conversation that night?  A miracle!  At their wedding!  The first miracles were given to the unknown of the world.  The broken and the dispirited.  The crippled in both mind and body.  Yet the very first miracle was given at a wedding.  A blending of two spirits into one, a sacred ceremony attended by God Himself.  I look back at this weekend and know without a doubt that God once again blessed a wedding with a miracle.
